Privacy policy
NetScope is a network tool. It necessarily sees information about the networks you point it at. This policy explains what it sees, where that information goes, and what you control. The short version: scans stay on your device unless you create an account and turn on sync.
What the app collects on your device
- Network observations: IP addresses, hostnames, advertised Bonjour and SSDP services, open or refused TCP ports, and the Wi‑Fi network name when you grant location access. These describe devices on networks you are connected to.
- Your annotations: names, trust levels, tags and notes you add to devices.
- Diagnostic results: latency, DNS, port, speed and connection checks you run, with the target and time.
All of this is stored in a database on your iPhone or iPad. It is not sent to us, to advertisers, or to anyone else unless you turn on sync. Demo mode uses a separate store and never touches your real data.
Permissions and why
- Local network: required to discover devices. Without it the app can only test internet connectivity.
- Location (optional): iOS only reveals the Wi‑Fi network name to apps with location access. NetScope uses it for the network name only and does not record your location.
- Notifications (optional): for alerts you configure when monitoring is enabled.
If you create an account
With an account and sync turned on, the app uploads the networks, devices, annotations and events you choose to a NetScope workspace so you can see them on other devices and receive alerts. We store your email address, a salted password hash, and the synced data. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except the infrastructure providers that host the service under contract.
You can turn sync off at any time; the app keeps working locally. You can delete your account from More → Account; this removes your workspace data from our servers within 30 days, except backups which expire on their own schedule.
The home agent
The optional agent runs on a device you own (for example a Raspberry Pi) and reports observations about your network to your workspace. It makes outbound connections only, authenticates with a credential you created by pairing, and can be unpaired from the app at any time, which revokes that credential.
What we never do
- Scan networks you are not connected to.
- Interfere with traffic (no ARP spoofing, no Wi‑Fi deauthentication).
- Open camera or video streams.
- Present guesses as facts: vendor, model and OS are labelled as estimates.
This website
netscopescan.com is a static site hosted on Netlify. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Netlify keeps standard server logs (IP address, user agent, pages requested) for a short period for security and operations. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the font files are requested.
Children
NetScope is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
